Help Advance Research for Mobility and Memory

About The Study

Researchers at the Marcus Institute for Aging Research are conducting a study to evaluate the effects of home-based, investigational non-invasive brain stimulation (tDCS). The goal is to see if this safe technology can potentially improve memory, walking, and overall physical functioning in older adults who are noticing changes in their mobility and cognition.

Quick Facts

Local Study

Research is based in the Greater Boston area.

At-Home Program

6.5-month brain stimulation program done in your own home.

Study Partner Required

Must have a study partner to help administer the stimulation.

Ages 65-90

Specifically for adults within this age range.

Who Can Participate?
  • Adults between 65 and 90 years old.
  • Individuals noticing memory changes and slower walking speeds.
  • Must be able to walk without walking aids (cane, walker, etc.).
  • Must have a study partner (spouse, child, etc.) available to assist.
  • Must be able to safely undergo an MRI scan.

What To Expect

Approximately 10 in-person study visits over 12 months.
20 minutes of daily investigational non-invasive brain stimulation (Mon-Fri).
Comprehensive study-related clinical assessments, including memory and mobility testing.
Three MRI brain scans and one fasting blood draw.
Weekly 5-minute walking tests at home using a smartphone app.
As a participant, you can receive up to $720 for completing all study procedures.
