About The Study

Researchers are studying a potential new medication for irritability in teens with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This includes behaviors like tantrums, yelling, aggression, or self-harm. The study will test the safety and effects of this medication compared to a placebo. All study-related care, medication, and visits are provided at no cost.

For Teens with ASD

Ages 11–17 with autism and irritability symptoms

Commitment

9 clinic visits over about 2 months (6-week treatment period)

Families may be reimbursed for reasonable time and travel costs

Your Teen May Qualify If:
  • They are 11 to 17 years old
  • Have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Are showing signs of irritability, such as tantrums, yelling, aggression, or self-harm
  • Can attend weekly in-person study visits near Atlanta, GA
  • (Ages 13–17) Are able to swallow capsules

What to Expect:

Your teen will take a daily capsule (study drug or placebo) for 6 weeks
You’ll visit the study center once per week for health checks and assessments
The study team will closely monitor your child’s health, behavior, and progress
Your child may be asked to fast before some visits (water is okay)

Reimbursement & Benefits

There is no cost to join the study. If your teen qualifies, all study-related care, assessments, and medications are provided free of charge. In addition, families may be reimbursed for reasonable time and travel costs related to participation.
