About the Study

The Neurovascular Exercise Physiology (NEP) Lab at UMass Boston invites you to participate in an innovative research study. This study is focused on understanding how the cardiovascular system works during exercise and how blood flow to the kidneys is affected in individuals from different racial identity groups.

We are seeking healthy African American and White adults between the ages of 18 and 35 to participate in this study. Your involvement will help us uncover important insights into health disparities and the physiological mechanisms that may contribute to conditions like heart and kidney disease.

Who can Participate?

- Age 18-35
- Healthy African American or White adults

What the Study Involves:

Participants will complete a range of tests and activities, including:

A fitness test to assess cardiovascular endurance.
A cycling exercise conducted while lying down.
A cold hand test to evaluate circulatory responses.
A mental stress test to measure physiological reactions.

Study Requirements:
To ensure reliable results, we ask participants to:
Refrain from consuming caffeinated or alcoholic beverages and avoid strenuous exercise 24 hours before the study.
Avoid eating for at least 2 hours before the first visit and 4 hours before the second visit.

The study will take place at the Neurovascular Exercise Physiology Lab in the Quinn Administration Building at the University of Massachusetts Boston campus. Your participation will involve two visits, with a total time commitment of approximately 5 hours.
